We aim to challenge the perception that marijuana, alcohol and other drug use are part of "growing up", and we want to encourage students to pursue healthy activities.

As unique as our small community is, in lots of ways we are like almost every other community in the United States: substance abuse problems are affecting some of our students and the lives of those that love them. We aim to challenge the perception that marijuana, alcohol and other drug use are part of "growing up", and we want to encourage students to pursue healthy activities.

Our community coalition and prevention club strive to help our youth be more informed about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in order for them to make healthy decisions.  Through education both in the classroom and the community, we can raise awareness about the habits they are developing now, and how they can have positive or negative consequences in the future. One of the most important messages we have focused on this year for our students and families is Social Norms, and the reality that the majority of our kids are not using alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. The majority of our students make healthy choices when it comes to substance use, based on information collected during the statewide Healthy Youth Survey. Our prevention club is hopeful for the future of our community,  and we encourage every student to be the majority, and be substance free.
